| A cosseted, unhappy housewife (Licia Maglietta) who’s taken for granted by her philandering, self-centered husband (Antonio Catania) finds bella fortuna when she hitchhikes to Venice and starts to construct a brand-new life for herself. Blossoming with newfound independence, the woman begins a tentative relationship with a lonely, suicidal waiter (the great Bruno Ganz) that seems to bode well for both of them.
Made in 2000, this movie is a feel good, romantic story with intimate views of Venice that make you feel like you actually live there. There is also a beautiful, soaring music score. |
| Our evening will be hosted by Mariangela Parenti-Thomas, who will give a brief introduction of the movie and its director, Silvio Soldini. There will be a follow up conversation in Italian and/or English with Mariangela Parenti-Thomas. Born in Bologna, Italy, Mariangela lives in North Beach with her husband and teaches Italian and English. This is the second in a series of Italian films reflecting our theme of women and love in Italian cinema. |

We are now booking our wonderfully quirky and beautifully bohemian art gallery and roof garden for holiday parties. Call 415-956-0279 or e-mail marshagarland@att.net to arrange a tour of the premises. We will work within your budget.
Located at 535 Green Street between Columbus and Grant Avenues, the Buon Gusto Gallery occupies the roof level of the historic Buon Gusto Sausage Factory, built mid-20th Century.
Available on site for special events and private parties: folding chairs, half kitchen, bathrooms, buffet tables, sound system, movie projector and screen, catering, bartender and wait service. Valet parking lot adjacent.

After one year of nurturing our little eco-system on the roof and maintaining two feeders, we have hummingbirds! A miracle of nature!

“RESPIRO”
(Grazia’s Island)
Starring Valeria Golino
On the island of Lampedusa, near Sicily, life can be as suffocating as it is charming. Grazia (Valeria Golino) is the loving young mother of three children, but, much like the sea surrounding her island, Grazia can also be unpredictable and stormy. Although her free spirit causes talk, Grazia’s husband lovingly stands by her in the face of small-town gossip. But as her behavior becomes more reckless, even her family’s love can’t protect her. In Italian with English subtitles.
Our evening will include a brief introduction of the movie and its director. There will be a follow up conversation in Italian and/or English with moderator Mariangela Parenti. Born in Bologna, Italy, Mariangela lives in North Beach with her husband and teaches Italian and English. This will be the first in a series of Italian films reflecting our theme of Women and Love in Italian Cinema.

Thanks to Dandy Roofing!

Many have noticed the brighter whites, ruddier reds and Italian stripes on the front of the Buon Gusto Sausage Factory AND the fact that the old clock is working again. Our mid-20th Century factory building is a joy to behold thanks to Michael Price, owner of Dandy Roofing. Fearlessly Mike scaled the facade and brought it back to its former glory as well as repairing the roof. Thank you Mike! Dandy Roofing/Mike Price 415/678-6508 or dandyroofing@gmail.com.
Four handmade Sugar Skulls by prize winning cocktailian, Victoria D’Amato Moran left.

In early May, the Buon Gusto Art & Events Gallery showed “Voces Sin Sonido”, a half hour documentary about the femicides in Juarez, Mexico. Produced by Tricia Muradja, the film also dealt with positive actions being taken by women who live on the border in order to take control of their own lives.
The gallery was rehung to reflect art about Mexico. Prize winning cocktailian, Victoria D’Amato Moran made several large sugar skulls for the exhibit. They are priced at $35 each and are wonderful permanent sugar sculptures. There are only four left, so hurry and call or stop by if you would like one.
The new Buon Gusto Gallery Roof Garden

Snapshots of or from the new Buon Gusto Gallery Roof Garden. A little bit quirky, a little bit of beauty, a little bit of serenity, a little bit of garden, a little bit of color. It’s a work in progress.
